Hailing from Toronto and dancing since the age of 6, Ava has trained in tap, ballet, hip hop, musical theatre, contemporary and modern dance. Her dance training has been at: Canadian Dance Company, Jade’s Hip Hop Academy, Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance, The National Ballet School of Canada (summer intensive second stage audition), Tap Dance Centre (TDC), Footnotes Elite Crew, International Dance Academy and Etobicoke School of the Arts.
Since starting tap dance at the age of 9, Ava quickly discovered her love of the art and joined the Tap Dance Centre while still dancing competitively for her home studio. Over the years she has been extremely fortunate to perform in 4 shows per year as part of numerous pre-professional tap companies including: Kim Chalovich and David Cox’s Junior and Youth Companies, Johnny Morin and Cori Gianotta’s Youth Company, Travis Knights' Elite Company, and David Cox, MacKenzie Greenwell, Ryan Foley and Christian Chopp's Advanced Companies. She has also had the privilege of training privately with Ryan Foley, David Cox, Travis Knights, MacKenzie Greenwell, Dianne Montgomery, Amy Lintunen and Aaron Tolson and received the following tap certifications: PAEC (Tap) - Elementary 2 with Honours & TDC’s Tap Syllabus.
Winning numerous awards during her competitive years, some highlights include: Dance Canada 2019: 1st overall (tap) duet, 1st overall (tap) soloist; Dance Canada 2015: 2nd place Junior (ballet) soloist; Terpsichore 2014: 1st Place overall Intermediate (tap) soloist and Jump 2014: 3rd place overall Mini (tap) soloist. After leaving the competitive dance scene, Ava decided to streamline her training to tap, ballet and modern while also attending Etobicoke School of the Arts as a dance major.
In 2017 and 2018, she enjoyed a week of summer training at The Intensive in New Hampshire working with: Derick Grant, Aaron Tolson, Jason Samuel Smith, Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards and Jumaane Taylor.
Ava was also a member of Team Canada in Reisa, Germany at the IDO World Tap Championships in the 2015 Junior and 2019 Adult national tap teams, bringing home a silver medal in Junior Formations.
In her free time, Ava enjoys designing, creating and selling clothing that appeals to teens. She is also excited and looking forward to continuing her tap journey at the Tap Dance Centre as the newest faculty member.
