• TECHNIQUE CLASS: includes a warm up, drills, combinations, and repertoire work.

  • CHOREOGRAPHY CLASS:  works specifically on routines that will be performed.

  • SYLLABUS CLASS: reviews the TDC Tap Syllabus and prepares the students for tap exams at the end of the season.

  • BUCKET DRUMMING: learn the basics of musical theory, percussive notation, and fundamental rhythm studies through the fun of bucket drumming instruction.  This is an excellent way to enhance one’s understanding of music within the art form of tap dance.

  • IMPROV CLASS:  Instructors will work through the methods of improvisation, allowing students to explore a safe and comfortable environment for creating their own rhythms, combinations, steps, and styles.

  • STEP DANCE- We are offering an adult step class on Monday nights and an advanced step class (for advanced tap dancers), which is rooted in the Ottawa Valley tradition.

  • TEACHER CLASS- This daytime class is perfect for dance teachers wanting some time for themselves, and/or seasoned adult tap dancers wanting a challenge.  We will be covering a variety of training skills from drills, technique, history, syllabus training, legendary repertoire, and original choreography that may or may not be part of upcoming showcases (performances are completely optional).

Adult Classes

Learn with other adults in a mature, yet fun-filled setting. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels are available with various instructors. Classes are typically one hour in length and cover technique as well as choreography. There is also the option with some classes that divide up technique and choreography giving a more substantial amount of time to these two class types.

All performances are optional, and adults are welcome to just take technique classes or participate in the classes and not participate the shows.

Kids Classes

Starting at three years of age, TDC offers “Tap for Tots”, and extends levels upward from Beginner through to Advanced. Classes are typically 45 minutes in length. Students who want to be in a more extensive training program, please see “Performing Companies”.

Performing Companies

From age seven and up, TDC offers programs to students that want to improve their skills while attaining a more ‘all round’ education in tap dance. This program enhances a student’s skills by incorporating many different aspects including music theory (through bucket drumming), syllabus training (including history), technique, choreography, and improvisation. The companies are geared towards the professional stage, as they prepare for three to four showcases that take place throughout the season.
